Aristotel
Rođen u Stagiri kao sin lekara na makedonskom dvoru. Odlazi u Asos na obali Male Azije. Tamo se bavi istraživačkim radom iz filozofije i logike, kao i biologije. U Atinu se vraća 335. i tada osniva svoju školu u vežbalištu posvećenom Apolonu Likeju. Nakon pogibije Aleksandra Makedonskog 325. godine Aristotel je ponovo bio primoran da napusti Atinu. Odlazi na imanje svoje majke u Halkidu, gde umire 322. godine pre nove ere.
Aristotel najviše ceni teorijski život, jer njegova božanstvenost jedina donosi stvarnu sreću ili najveće dobro. Takav život, međutim, nije ništa manje aktivan nego što je to neki praktičan, na primer politički život. Za njega je filozof koji pokreće vlastiti um, kao i umove drugih, mnogo delatniji čovek nego bilo koji praktičar iz sveta politike ili ekonomije. Čisto teorijski život više nalikuje bogovima nego ljudima i iz tog razloga, za srećan odnosno dobar život treba upražnjavati teorijsku mudrost. S druge strane, život isključivo radi uživanja više priliči “običnoj stoci” i nije vredan truda.
